  147.  
  148. IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0
  149.  
  150. o  The 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0 supports up to 6
  151.    PC sessions and up to four host sessions on the IBM
  152.    Personal System/2 Model 30, the IBM 3270 PC and selected
  153.    IBM Personal Computers.  The IBM 2M Expanded Memory
  154.    Adapter, which expands memory up to 2.25M may be required
  155.    for multiple PC sessions.  The existing XMA card for the
  156.    3270 PC continues to be supported.  Using expanded
  157.    memory, one PC DOS application area up to 592Kb and 5
  158.    additional PC DOS application areas up to a maximum of
  159.    384KB are allowed.
  160.  
  161. o  For IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60, memory may be
  162.    expanded up to 2MB using the IBM Personal System/2 80286
  163.    Expanded Memory Adapter/A.  Up to 6 PC DOS Application
  164.    sessions are allowed.  Using an Expanded Memory Adapter,
  165.    one PC DOS application area up to 512K and 5 additional
  166.    PC DOS application areas up to a maximum of 384K are
  167.    allowed.  The IBM 3270 Workstation Program 1.0 also
  168.    supports System/2 Model 80.

  170.    The IBM Personal System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A
  171.    and the IBM 2MB Expanded Memory Adapter support one
  172.    Expanded Memory Specification session and up to two
  173.    virtual disk sessions.

  175. o  Host Graphics:
  176.  
  177.    For IBM 3270 PC users, the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
  178.    provides the same host graphics support offered by the
  179.    IBM 3270 PC Control Program Version 3.0.  For users on
  180.    IBM Personal Computers and Personal System/2 who require
  181.    graphics for occasional use, this function may be
  182.    provided by IBM GDDM-PCLK.  This application when paired
  183.    with the enabling GDDM host program allows the user to
  184.    interact with GDDM to display, print, and plot graphics
  185.    functions.

  187. o  Local Area Network Support:
  188.  
  189.    The IBM 3270 Workstation Program is compatible with
  190.    redirector, receiver, and messenger functions of the IBM
  191.    PC Local Area Network Program Version 1.2 on the IBM
  192.    Token-Ring Network and IBM PC Network (broadband).  Users
  193.    of these programs can take advantage of local area
  194.    network resources:  access to data and programs on file
  195.    servers, share print resources, and send and receive
  196.    messages.  The Local Area Network Support Program is
  197.    required and supported with appropriate network adapter:
  198.    The IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter, IBM PC Network
  199.    Adapter II, IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter/A, or IBM PC
  200.    Network Adapter II/A.
  201.  
  202. o  Host Outbound Data Stream Preprocessor Option:
  203.  
  204.    This option for DFT configured systems may be activated
  205.    at configuration time using the User System Extension
  206.    facility.  Once connected, the User System Extension will
  207.    be invoked for all host outbound 3270-data streams
  208.    directed to a particular host session at the workstation.
  209.  
  210.    This preprocessing allows for modification of the data
  211.    stream and/or prefixing or postfixing an additional data
  212.    stream via a function control block.  Non-3270
  213.    information that may reside in the data stream may be
  214.    redirected.  Applications that repetitively query data
  215.    bases and present the information in formatted screens
  216.    may have the format portion stored locally at the
  217.    workstation for merging with the data stream from the
  218.    host.  This capability tends to curtail the amount of
  219.    data traffic that flows through a network.
  220.  
  221. o  ASCII Support for 3270 PC Application Program Interface
  222.    (API):
  223.  
  224.    An option is provided to allow applications to send and
  225.    receive keystrokes in ASCII or ASCII mnemonics instead of
  226.    scan codes using the Read Input and Write Keystroke API
  227.    services.  AID KEYS will be supported in ASCII as well.
  228.  
  229.    ASCII values that may be sent or received include:
  230.  
  231.    -  All selected standard ASCII characters representing
  232.       keys that may be received from the keyboard
  233.  
  234.    -  ASCII mnemonics that represent HOST and Personal
  235.       Computer keystrokes that do not have ASCII codes will
  236.       be represented in 2, 3, 4, or 6 bytes.
  237.  
  238. o  IBM 4865 Personal Computer 3.5-inch External Diskette
  239.    Drive:
  240.  
  241.    This is an external diskette drive that uses the
  242.    increased capacity of the 3.5-inch media to read and
  243.    write approximately 720K bytes of data per diskette.
  244.    Model 1 is supported under the IBM 3270 Workstation
  245.    Program Version 1.0 for 5160 and 5271 models.  The Model
  246.    2 is supported under IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version
  247.    1.0 for 5170 and 5273 models.  The program startup and
  248.    dump capabilities are not supported on the 4865.
  249.  
  250. o  Four New Notepad Functions:
  251.  
  252.    New functions are provided to aid in the inputting of
  253.    data to the Notepad.  These functions do the following:
  254.  
  255.    -  Move a block of lines from one screen position to the
  256.       cursor location.
  257.    -  Copy a block of lines and insert them between other
  258.       lines at the cursor location.
  259.    -  Copy a block of lines from a certain point and overlay
  260.       the lines at the cursor location.
  261.    -  Displays a HELP panel describing the valid keys that
  262.       may be pressed for valid notepad functions.
  263.  
  264. o  Customization Usability Enhanced:
  265.  
  266.    Customization is reduced from a total of 13 panels to 6
  267.    panels for selection of options.  The user may scroll
  268.    through possible selections for an option.
  269.  
  270. IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1
  271.  
  272. o  IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1 program will
  273.    provide XMA emulation to expand memory on Personal
  274.    System/2, Model 80, so that there is no need for an XMA
  275.    adapter.  This will allow programs running on other
  276.    models with XMA adapters to run on the Model 80, using
  277.    its native memory, without reprogramming.
  278.  
  279. o  Token-Ring support will be expanded to provide access to
  280.    IBM S/370 through Token-Ring Network attachment features
  281.    for the 3725 Communications Controller.  Also supported
  282.    is the Token-Ring attachment to the 3174 Control Unit
  283.    with the gateway function.  This will eliminate the need
  284.    for a workstation to have a 3278/79 emulation adapter
  285.    card and its own coaxial cable for attachment to 3X74
  286.    Control Units.  802.2 protocols will be supported.

  288. IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.0
  289.  
  290. o  The High Level Language API (HLLAPI) Licensed Program
  291.    Version 3.0 will be supported under the IBM 3270
  292.    Workstation Program Version 1.0.  All programs written
  293.    for the IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.0
  294.    under IBM 3270 PC Control Program Version 3.0on 3270 PC
  295.    (5271 and 5273) systems will run under the IBM 3270
  296.    Workstation Program Version 1.0.  Operation of these
  297.    programs on selected standard PC hardware will be subject
  298.    to some display/keyboard adapter related restrictions.

  301. o  All programs written to the Entry-Emulator High Level
  302.    Language API component of the IBM PC 3270 Emulation
  303.    Program, Entry Level Versions 1.1 and 1.2 will run under
  304.    the IBM 3270 Workstation Program Versions 1.0 and 1.1.
  305.    The High Level Language API (HLLAPI) Licensed Program
  306.    Versions 3.0 and 3.1 provide a superset of the functions
  307.    found in the Entry-Emulator High Level Language API.

  309. IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.1

  311. o  The IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.1
  312.    enhances the IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version
  313.    3.0 function with the addition of a Language Interface

  388. the IBM 3270 PC Control Program, provides and enhances most

  391. functions are becoming available also on Personal System/2,
  392. and selected models of the IBM Personal Computer AT and XT.

  397. Expanded Memory Adapter may be used on selected IBM Personal
  398. Computers, Personal System/2 Model 30, and IBM 3270 PC to
  399. expand the memory up to 2.25M bytes.  Personal System/2
  400. 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A will expand memory of the
  401. Personal System/2 Model 50 and Personal System/2 Model 60 up

  404. The IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1 provides for up
  405. to 2M bytes of expanded memory support for Personal System/2
  406. Models 50 and 60, and Personal System/2 Model 80-041/071.

  408. Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60 require the Personal
  409. System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A, while Personal
  410. System/2 Model 80-041/071 uses system memory.  Users on the
  411. IBM Token-Ring Network have access to S/370 via the directly
  412. attached 3725 or 3174.  The High Level Language Application
  413. Program Interface (HLLAPI) Version 3.1 adds support for the
  414. IBM C Language and 14 languages while running in conjunction
  415. with IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1.

  447. across the IBM 3270 emulation family of products.

  449. End users who require any of the following functions in IBM
  450. PC DOS environments today:  memory management,
  451. multi-tasking, multi-host and or PC DOS sessions, High Level
  452. Language Application Program Interface (HLLAPI), Server
  453. Requester Program Interface, S/370 host attachment, or who
  454. are current IBM 3270 PC Control Program users, should
  455. consider migrating to the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
  456. Version 1.0.

  458. This program supports and may require IBM 2MB Expanded
  459. Memory Adapter to expand memory up to 2.25M bytes for
  460. execution of up to four host sessions and/or up to six PC
  461. DOS sessions, for Expanded Memory Specification, and for
  462. virtual disk on selected IBM Personal Computers, Personal
  463. System/2 Model 30 and the IBM 3270 PC.

  465. For those end users who may want to take advantage of the
  466. price/performance of the Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60,
  467. the IBM 3270 Workstation Program offers an attractive PC DOS
  468. solution today and assists migration to the IBM Operating
  469. Personal System/2 Extended Edition.

  471. The Personal System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A will
  472. be supported and may be required to expand the memory up to
  473. 2M bytes to execute multiple host and/or PC DOS concurrent
  474. sessions as well as virtual disk.  The IBM 3270 Workstation
  475. Program Version 1.1 uses Personal System/2 Model 80 memory
  476. to expand memory.

  684. Limitations
  685.  
  686. General Limitations:

  688. o  Use of IBM GDDM-PCLK Program is limited to a single
  689.    Personal Computer session at one time.  Each such session
  690.    requires one PC session and one host session.

  692. o  One Personal Computer session at a time can use the
  693.    Lotus/Intel/Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification
  694.    configuration.

  705. Versions 1.0 and 1.1 on non-3270 PC hardware (non-5271/3

  709.    will always be displayed in full screen mode when they

  763. Performance Considerations:  Applications which exhibit the
  764. following characteristics will not perform as well in a
  765. multi-DOS environment:

  767. o  Applications which use the older style File Control
  768.    Blocks instead of the newer File "Handles".

  770. o  Applications which use BIOS Video calls to write to the
  771.    display instead of DOS calls.

  773. When configured for a single-DOS PC session, performance may
  774. be less than a multi-DOS configuration with only one PC
  775. session active.

  777. On a Personal Computer AT or 3270 Personal Computer AT with
  778. an XMA installed, applications over 430K in size may perform
  779. at speeds comparable to that of a Personal Computer XT.  The
  780. larger the application above 430k the more the performance
  781. alteration.

  783. On a Personal System/2 Model 30 with an Expanded Memory
  784. Adapter installed:  applications with intense writing to the
  785. display may perform at speeds comparable to that of a
  786. Personal Computer XT with an Expanded Memory Adapter
  787. installed.
  788.  
  789. Asynchronous communications requires a higher rate of
  790. interrupt handling than other protocols and may be limited
  791. to low transmission rates.
  792.  
  793. Prerequisites:  DOS 3.3 is a prerequisite for IBM 3270

  859. recommended.

  861. On IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60 configured with
  862. the IBM Personal System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A a
  863. maximum of 2MB of memory is available.  One PC-DOS
  864. Application area up to 512K bytes in size, and five
  865. additional PC-DOS application areas, each up to 384K bytes
  866. in size are allowed.  On Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60,
  867. the native memory is disabled when using the IBM Personal
  868. System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A.

  870. On Personal System/2 Model 30, the IBM Personal Computer XT,
  871. IBM Personal Computer AT, the IBM 3270 PC XT, or the IBM

  873. 2.25 MB of memory is available.  The IBM 3270 PC XT or the
  874. 3270 PC AT with the Expanded Memory Adapter option also

  878. in size are allowed.  The system board memory above 256K
  879. must be removed or disabled when using the expanded memory
  880. features.

  882. However, these maximum sizes may not be available in some
  883. system configurations.  For example, the presence of DOS
  884. device drivers, token ring drivers, or user installed system
  885. extensions may reduce the maximum PC application area since
  886. device drivers and system extensions, if present, will
  887. occupy additional memory on the system board and memory on
  888. Expanded Memory Adapter if needed.  The
  889. Lotus/Intel/Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification, or
  890. virtual disks provides further memory extension capability
  891. in this case.

  893. The EMS driver reduces all PC-DOS sessions by 64K.  ECF
  894. drivers also impact the PC-DOS application area sizes.  Also
  895. different system configurations use the reserved memory
  896. space differently, therefore, calculating memory
  897. requirements must take into consideration the system
  898. configuration as well as the program configurations.

  1697. The Server-Requester Programming Interface (SRPI) is
  1698. provided for development of interconnected host and personal
  1699. computer applications.  Resource sharing capabilities
  1700. between IBM Personal Computers and IBM System/370 computers
  1701. will be provided later by an optional set of requester and
  1702. server products offered by IBM.  The SRPI and these optional
  1703. facilities comprise a new environment called Enhanced
  1704. Connectivity Facilities.  Linked to a host system with
  1705. central files and data bases, the personal computer user can
  1706. have access to large amounts of information for use in
  1707. spreadsheets, graphs, and business correspondence.  In
  1708. addition, the personal computer user can invoke host
  1709. programs to provide analysis not available or feasible on a
  1710. personal computer.  The goal of Enhanced Connectivity
  1711. Facilities is to provide a consolidated approach to personal
  1712. computer-to-host communication.

  2006. Voice/Phone Assistant/Voice Communication Option
  2007. limitations:  The Voice Communication Option asynchronous
  2008. communications function set is not supported concurrently
  2009. with a 3270 emulation session.  When using the Listen or
  2010. Record functions of the IBM Voice/Phone Assistant,
  2011. intermittent messages may be written to the host screen.  To
  2012. avoid this, the user may choose to run the IBM PC 3270
  2013. Emulation Program, Entry Level, Version 1.2 in Suspend
  2014. (Alt+S) mode.

  2017. 1.2/TopView 1.1 compatibility limitations:  Use of a mouse
  2018. device when running the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program, Entry
  2019. Level, Version 1.2 concurrently with the TopView 1.1
  2020. Program, is not supported.

  2022. IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program, Entry Level, Version 1.2
  2023. operating in ECF mode offers no support for TopView.

  2027. function is not allowed when an application program is

  2133. runs under control of the IBM PC Disk Operating System
  2134. (PC-DOS), and is subject to the controls that PC-DOS

  2137. security features, and for the appropriate application
