DESCRIPTION
IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0
o The 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0 supports up to 6
PC sessions and up to four host sessions on the IBM
Personal System/2 Model 30, the IBM 3270 PC and selected
IBM Personal Computers. The IBM 2M Expanded Memory
Adapter, which expands memory up to 2.25M may be required
for multiple PC sessions. The existing XMA card for the
3270 PC continues to be supported. Using expanded
memory, one PC DOS application area up to 592Kb and 5
additional PC DOS application areas up to a maximum of
384KB are allowed.
o For IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60, memory may be
expanded up to 2MB using the IBM Personal System/2 80286
Expanded Memory Adapter/A. Up to 6 PC DOS Application
sessions are allowed. Using an Expanded Memory Adapter,
one PC DOS application area up to 512K and 5 additional
PC DOS application areas up to a maximum of 384K are
allowed. The IBM 3270 Workstation Program 1.0 also
supports System/2 Model 80.
The IBM Personal System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A
and the IBM 2MB Expanded Memory Adapter support one
Expanded Memory Specification session and up to two
virtual disk sessions.
o Host Graphics:
For IBM 3270 PC users, the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
provides the same host graphics support offered by the
IBM 3270 PC Control Program Version 3.0. For users on
IBM Personal Computers and Personal System/2 who require
graphics for occasional use, this function may be
provided by IBM GDDM-PCLK. This application when paired
with the enabling GDDM host program allows the user to
interact with GDDM to display, print, and plot graphics
functions.
o Local Area Network Support:
The IBM 3270 Workstation Program is compatible with
redirector, receiver, and messenger functions of the IBM
PC Local Area Network Program Version 1.2 on the IBM
Token-Ring Network and IBM PC Network (broadband). Users
of these programs can take advantage of local area
network resources: access to data and programs on file
servers, share print resources, and send and receive
messages. The Local Area Network Support Program is
required and supported with appropriate network adapter:
The IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter, IBM PC Network
Adapter II, IBM Token-Ring Network Adapter/A, or IBM PC
Network Adapter II/A.
o Host Outbound Data Stream Preprocessor Option:
This option for DFT configured systems may be activated
at configuration time using the User System Extension
facility. Once connected, the User System Extension will
be invoked for all host outbound 3270-data streams
directed to a particular host session at the workstation.
This preprocessing allows for modification of the data
stream and/or prefixing or postfixing an additional data
stream via a function control block. Non-3270
information that may reside in the data stream may be
redirected. Applications that repetitively query data
bases and present the information in formatted screens
may have the format portion stored locally at the
workstation for merging with the data stream from the
host. This capability tends to curtail the amount of
data traffic that flows through a network.
o ASCII Support for 3270 PC Application Program Interface
(API):
An option is provided to allow applications to send and
receive keystrokes in ASCII or ASCII mnemonics instead of
scan codes using the Read Input and Write Keystroke API
services. AID KEYS will be supported in ASCII as well.
ASCII values that may be sent or received include:
- All selected standard ASCII characters representing
keys that may be received from the keyboard
- ASCII mnemonics that represent HOST and Personal
Computer keystrokes that do not have ASCII codes will
be represented in 2, 3, 4, or 6 bytes.
o IBM 4865 Personal Computer 3.5-inch External Diskette
Drive:
This is an external diskette drive that uses the
increased capacity of the 3.5-inch media to read and
write approximately 720K bytes of data per diskette.
Model 1 is supported under the IBM 3270 Workstation
Program Version 1.0 for 5160 and 5271 models. The Model
2 is supported under IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version
1.0 for 5170 and 5273 models. The program startup and
dump capabilities are not supported on the 4865.
o Four New Notepad Functions:
New functions are provided to aid in the inputting of
data to the Notepad. These functions do the following:
- Move a block of lines from one screen position to the
cursor location.
- Copy a block of lines and insert them between other
lines at the cursor location.
- Copy a block of lines from a certain point and overlay
the lines at the cursor location.
- Displays a HELP panel describing the valid keys that
may be pressed for valid notepad functions.
o Customization Usability Enhanced:
Customization is reduced from a total of 13 panels to 6
panels for selection of options. The user may scroll
through possible selections for an option.
IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1
o IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1 program will
provide XMA emulation to expand memory on Personal
System/2, Model 80, so that there is no need for an XMA
adapter. This will allow programs running on other
models with XMA adapters to run on the Model 80, using
its native memory, without reprogramming.
o Token-Ring support will be expanded to provide access to
IBM S/370 through Token-Ring Network attachment features
for the 3725 Communications Controller. Also supported
is the Token-Ring attachment to the 3174 Control Unit
with the gateway function. This will eliminate the need
for a workstation to have a 3278/79 emulation adapter
card and its own coaxial cable for attachment to 3X74
Control Units. 802.2 protocols will be supported.
IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.0
o The High Level Language API (HLLAPI) Licensed Program
Version 3.0 will be supported under the IBM 3270
Workstation Program Version 1.0. All programs written
for the IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.0
under IBM 3270 PC Control Program Version 3.0on 3270 PC
(5271 and 5273) systems will run under the IBM 3270
Workstation Program Version 1.0. Operation of these
programs on selected standard PC hardware will be subject
to some display/keyboard adapter related restrictions.
(See 'Compatibility Considerations'.)
o All programs written to the Entry-Emulator High Level
Language API component of the IBM PC 3270 Emulation
Program, Entry Level Versions 1.1 and 1.2 will run under
the IBM 3270 Workstation Program Versions 1.0 and 1.1.
The High Level Language API (HLLAPI) Licensed Program
Versions 3.0 and 3.1 provide a superset of the functions
found in the Entry-Emulator High Level Language API.
IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.1
o The IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version 3.1
enhances the IBM 3270 PC High Level Language API Version
3.0 function with the addition of a Language Interface
Module (LIM) for the IBM C programming language.
National Language Support for fourteen languages, is
supported under the IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version
1.1. HLLAPI Version 3.1 is supported for use with IBM
3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0, however, only US
English is supported.

Software Requirements: The IBM 3270 Workstation Program
Version 1.0 and Version 1.1 require IBM Personal Computer
DOS 3.3
Compatibility
Hardware Compatibility: The IBM 3270 Workstation Program
Version 1.1 compatibility with features will be published at
availability.
The 80287 Math Co-Processor is supported on the 80286 based
machines, for one PC session at a time.
Compatibility Considerations: Programs should use the
documented DOS and BIOS interfaces, and not write directly
to any absolute memory address, or do an 'in' or 'out' to an
I/O port address. The IBM Workstation Program Programming
Guide describes how to write compatible programs that will
run in background mode as well as foreground.
Limitations
General Limitations:
o Use of IBM GDDM-PCLK Program is limited to a single
Personal Computer session at one time. Each such session
requires one PC session and one host session.
o One Personal Computer session at a time can use the
Lotus/Intel/Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification
configuration.
o Two PC sessions can use the virtual disk configuration.
o An ECF application requires both a PC DOS session and a
host session. Under the IBM Workstation Program only the
first host session of the four available and only one of
the six PC DOS sessions
Hardware Dependent Limitations: The following is a list of
limitations while running the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
Versions 1.0 and 1.1 on non-3270 PC hardware (non-5271/3
systems).
o Applications that write directly to the display buffer
will always be displayed in full screen mode when they
are active even if they have been sized. When they are
not active or when the system is in WSCTRL mode, they
will be displayed as they were sized.
o Programs dependent on specific keyboards or display sizes
may encounter difficulties on dissimilar systems.
o Applications running in the IBM PC DOS sessions must not
reprogram the PC timer.
IBM Personal Computer XT and AT System Related Limitations:
o The following limitations apply to systems using IBM
Personal Computer XT or AT keyboards (88 keys):
- No keyboard definition utility functions will be
available for these keyboards.
- The WSCTRL functions available from the keyboard are:
-- Jump
-- Change Screen
-- Print Screen (alt, ctrl, print)
-- Quit (screen print or WSCTRL API)
-- Dump (alt, ctrl, test)
-- List
-- Select Window
-- Select Screen
For the IBM PC XT systems using a directly connected
Enhanced PC Keyboard (no keyboard adapter card installed),
and for Personal System/2 Model 30 the keyboard definition
utility will become available in IBM 3270 Workstation
Program Version 1.1. supported for Personal System/2 Model
30,
Display Adapter Related Limitations:
o Programs that write directly to the display buffer cannot
run in the background as they do on 5271/73 systems and
on Personal System/2 Model 80 with WSP 1.1.
Limitations Related to Single DOS session configuration
(Single DOS means non-multi-DOS)::
o All Personal Computer applications are suspended whenever
the PC window is not the active window.
o Applications using the IBM 3270 PC High Level Language
API
On the IBM PC Network, the baseband function is NOT
supported on IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0.
Performance Considerations: Applications which exhibit the
following characteristics will not perform as well in a
multi-DOS environment:
o Applications which use the older style File Control
Blocks instead of the newer File "Handles".
o Applications which use BIOS Video calls to write to the
display instead of DOS calls.
When configured for a single-DOS PC session, performance may
be less than a multi-DOS configuration with only one PC

On a Personal Computer AT or 3270 Personal Computer AT with
an XMA installed, applications over 430K in size may perform
at speeds comparable to that of a Personal Computer XT. The
larger the application above 430k the more the performance
alteration.
On a Personal System/2 Model 30 with an Expanded Memory
Adapter installed: applications with intense writing to the
display may perform at speeds comparable to that of a
Personal Computer XT with an Expanded Memory Adapter
installed.
Asynchronous communications requires a higher rate of
interrupt handling than other protocols and may be limited
to low transmission rates.
Prerequisites: DOS 3.3 is a prerequisite for IBM 3270
Workstation Program Version 1.0 and IBM 3270 Workstation
Program Version 1.1.
The IBM 3270 Workstation Program Versions 1.0 and 1.1
support the following programs:
IBM Local Area Network Support:
o IBM PC LAN Program Version 1.2 and IBM Local Area Network
Support Program for messenger, receiver, and redirector
level support on IBM Token-Ring, or IBM PC Network
(broadband).
o IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1 (only) and IBM
Local Area Network Support Program provide for a 3270
network station configuration on IBM Token-Ring using the
IEEE 802.2 standard. This configuration requires an
appropriately configured IBM 3174 Control Unit or an IBM
3725 Communications Controller, serving as a
communications gateway on the network to an IBM host
system.
IBM Host Connectivity Programs:
o Appropriate versions of host program support for IBM 3278
and 3279 Displays are required.
o IBM 3274 Control Unit configuration D microcode Release
65 or above when under Distributed Function Terminal
(DFT) mode.
o Host File Transfer Programs:
- IBM 3270-PC File Transfer Program, 5665-311 (MVS/TSO)
- IBM 3270-PC File Transfer Programs, 5664-281
(VM/SP2.1)
- IBM CICS/VS 3270-PC File Transfer Program, 5798-DQH
(CICS/VS 1.5)
o IBM Enhanced Connectivity Facilities (DFT Mode)
- VM/SP4(Service level 412) or Release 5
- TSO/E Release 3
o 3270 high level language programs created with:
- IBM 3270-PC High Level Language Application Program
Interface Version 3.0
- The EEHLLAPI component of IBM PC 3270 Emulation
Program, Entry Level Version 1.1
o IBM GDDM linked with GDDM-PCLK through IBM 3270
Workstation Program provides host graphics terminal
support for GDDM host applications
o IBM Personal Services/PC Versions 1.2 and 1.3
IBM PC Voice/Phone Assistant
IBM Voice Communications Operating Subsystem
Hardware Requirements:
Memory Requirements: IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version
1.0:
The memory requirements of the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
and its environment vary based upon a number of factors.
Users of this program are responsible for determining memory
requirements for their particular configuration
requirements.
On a system configured without an XMA 640K bytes is
recommended.
On IBM Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60 configured with
the IBM Personal System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A a
maximum of 2MB of memory is available. One PC-DOS
Application area up to 512K bytes in size, and five
additional PC-DOS application areas, each up to 384K bytes
in size are allowed. On Personal System/2 Models 50 and 60,
the native memory is disabled when using the IBM Personal
System/2 80286 Expanded Memory Adapter/A.
On Personal System/2 Model 30, the IBM Personal Computer XT,
IBM Personal Computer AT, the IBM 3270 PC XT, or the IBM
3270 PC AT, with the IBM 2MB Expanded Memory Adapter up to
2.25 MB of memory is available. The IBM 3270 PC XT or the
3270 PC AT with the Expanded Memory Adapter option also
supports memory up to 2.25 MB of memory. One PC-DOS
Application area up to 592K bytes in size, and five
additional PC-DOS application areas, each up to 384K bytes
in size are allowed. The system board memory above 256K
must be removed or disabled when using the expanded memory
features.
However, these maximum sizes may not be available in some
system configurations. For example, the presence of DOS
device drivers, token ring drivers, or user installed system
extensions may reduce the maximum PC application area since
device drivers and system extensions, if present, will
occupy additional memory on the system board and memory on
Expanded Memory Adapter if needed. The
Lotus/Intel/Microsoft Expanded Memory Specification, or
virtual disks provides further memory extension capability
in this case.
The EMS driver reduces all PC-DOS sessions by 64K. ECF
drivers also impact the PC-DOS application area sizes. Also
different system configurations use the reserved memory
space differently, therefore, calculating memory
requirements must take into consideration the system
configuration as well as the program configurations.
To estimate memory requirements, follow the directions in
each of the nine sections, I-IX. Each section must have an
entry to be complete. Additional information is available
in the IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.0 Users Guide
and Reference, and in the IBM 3270 Workstation Program
Version 1.0 Programming Guide, and the appropriate systems
technical publications.

DESCRIPTION
Enhanced Connectivity Facilities for Version 1.2
The Server-Requester Programming Interface (SRPI) is
provided for development of interconnected host and personal
computer applications. Resource sharing capabilities
between IBM Personal Computers and IBM System/370 computers
will be provided later by an optional set of requester and
server products offered by IBM. The SRPI and these optional
facilities comprise a new environment called Enhanced
Connectivity Facilities. Linked to a host system with
central files and data bases, the personal computer user can
have access to large amounts of information for use in
spreadsheets, graphs, and business correspondence. In
addition, the personal computer user can invoke host
programs to provide analysis not available or feasible on a
personal computer. The goal of Enhanced Connectivity
Facilities is to provide a consolidated approach to personal
